How we charge

Our Approach to Fees

For our everyday property work we charge a fixed fee — one agreed price for the whole matter, confirmed in writing before we begin. You know what the legal work will cost before you engage us, and the fee we quote is the fee you pay: we don’t add anything later for phone calls, emails or time spent.

Where a matter’s scope genuinely can’t be known in advance — a dispute, litigation or a complex commercial transaction — we provide a clear written estimate rather than a fixed figure, and keep you updated on cost as the matter progresses.

Alongside our professional fees you’ll pay disbursements: third-party costs such as government search and registration fees, the PEXA settlement fee and stamp duty. We pass these on at cost and itemise them, so you can see exactly where your money goes.

Corporate Legal provides legal and conveyancing services only — not financial, taxation, investment or credit advice. The fees below are for our professional legal work; third-party costs (disbursements) are additional and explained further down this page.

Fixed fees apply under our Costs Agreement

Our fixed fees apply once you enter our Costs Agreement at the start of your matter, which sets out exactly what the fee covers — and most matters are fully covered by it. A few specific items fall outside the fixed-fee scope: for example, additional rounds of contract negotiation, negotiating an extension of cooling-off, changing the settlement date, or urgent issues arising just before settlement. These are charged as set add-on fees or, where the work is more substantive, at our hourly rate of $600 + GST. We always tell you before any additional cost is incurred.

Matters Priced Individually

Some legal work can’t honestly be reduced to a single fixed fee, because how much work is involved depends on how the other side behaves and how far the matter runs. These are charged at our hourly rate of $600 + GST. Before we start, we give you a written estimate of the likely cost, and we keep you updated as the matter progresses — so there are no blank cheques and no surprises.

What’s Included — and What’s Extra

Transparency only works if you can see the whole picture. Our fixed fee covers all of our professional legal work. Alongside it sit disbursements — third-party costs we pay on your behalf and pass on at cost.

Included in your fixed fee

For a standard purchase, your fixed fee covers:

  • Reviewing the contract and advising you on its key terms and risks before you sign.
  • One round of negotiating amendments to the contract.
  • Advising you of the exchange, cooling-off and settlement dates, and tracking them.
  • Providing your exchanged contract to your broker or lender.
  • Ordering the searches your matter needs — council rates, water and strata, where applicable.
  • Arranging your building & pest and strata reports where you instruct us.
  • Obtaining land tax and ATO clearance certificates before settlement.
  • Verifying your identity and setting up the PEXA settlement workspace.
  • Preparing your stamp duty paperwork and the settlement adjustment figures.
  • Advising the funds required, completing settlement through PEXA, and confirming key release.
  • Emails, phone calls and updates throughout — we don’t bill for contact.

What are disbursements?

Disbursements are out-of-pocket costs we pay to third parties — government agencies, search providers and the electronic settlement platform — to complete your matter. They’re separate from our professional fee, passed on at cost with no mark-up, and itemised on your quote and invoice so you can see every dollar.

Typical Disbursements on a Purchase

These are third-party fees set by government agencies and service providers — not our charge. The amounts below are estimates and can change; we confirm the current figures for your specific matter. A sale, or a different property or location, will involve a different mix of searches.

Disbursements vary with the property, its location and the searches your matter needs. The figures above are a guide only; your written quote sets out the disbursements we expect for your transaction, each confirmed at cost.

A note on GST: our professional fees are quoted exclusive of GST, and GST is added on top. Government fees and duties are set by third parties and may change from time to time; we always confirm the current figures for your matter.

Pricing Questions, Answered

Are these prices fixed, or just an estimate?
For our everyday property work the prices are genuinely fixed. We confirm the exact figure in writing before we start, and that’s what you pay — we don’t add anything later for phone calls, emails or extra time. The only time a fee changes is if the scope of the matter itself genuinely changes, and if that happens we tell you and re-quote before doing the work.
Do your fees include government and search costs?
No — those are separate. Our fixed fee is our professional (legal) fee. Third-party costs such as government search fees, PEXA and lodgement fees, land registry fees and stamp duty are called disbursements. We pass them on at cost with no mark-up and itemise them on your quote and invoice, so you can see every dollar.
Why publish prices when most firms don’t?
Because we think you deserve to know what legal work costs before you have to call and ask. Transparent, fixed-fee pricing lets you budget with confidence, compare firms fairly, and engage us without worrying about a surprise bill. It’s simply how we’d want to be treated ourselves.
Is a cheaper conveyancer somewhere else the same thing?
Not quite. Many low headline prices come from a licensed conveyancer, not a lawyer, and some grow once “extras” are added. Every matter here is run by a qualified property lawyer for the fixed fee shown — so if a clause needs negotiating, a dispute arises, or your purchase involves a company, trust or SMSF, you already have a lawyer on the file. You’re comparing a complete legal service, not just a settlement.
What if my matter is more complex than a standard one?
The prices shown are “from” fixed fees for a standard matter. If yours has extra moving parts — multiple titles, an unusual structure, a tight timeframe — we’ll factor that into the written quote up front, so the figure you approve still holds. You’ll never be surprised after the fact.
How do I get an exact price for my matter?
Book a free 15-minute consultation or send us your details. We’ll confirm your fixed professional fee and expected disbursements in writing before any work begins, so you can decide with the full picture in front of you.
When do I pay?
We’ll set out the timing in your written quote and costs agreement. Typically disbursements are payable as they’re incurred and the professional fee at settlement or on completion of the work — we’ll make the arrangement clear before you engage us.
